Another Part Of Me by ~blackat81 on deviantART
blackat81 is hands down, one of two of my favourite MJ fanartists (the other being fran-ish). Before I posted my first piece of fanart, I was looking for other Michael fanart on dA. And I was saddened by the tiny amount of fanart from the cartoony set. Theres always going to be WAY too much badly drawn "Anime-esque" stuff of MJ, I was expecting it (this is dA we're talking about). And theres a HUGE amount of very well done, but photo-realistic fanart out there. BUT no cartoons (and YES. There is a difference between Anime and Cartoon. Don't get me started).
blackat81 was the first artist I came across with an awesome personal drawing style, a pretty nifty colouring style, and a really cute sense of humour. Check her gallery out. She's the real queen of MJ fanart. ;)

Okay, just so I won't be boring, I pick Slime Creatures from Outer Space by 'Weird' Al Yankovic.
Now, I COULD have easily just stuck to what my playlist/ipod is full of, but I figured it'd be a bit redundant at this point. So I picked my last big phase. I ADORE Weird Al. And I used this song in my animation project, in the segement I'm most proud of.
Dare to Be Stupid is his finest album. And this song STILL has the best baseline of all time. Sorry Billie Jean, Slime Creatures has you beat.

The MJ Tribute Sketchbook
Aug. 29th, 2009 | 06:54 pm
On the 25th of June 2009, the world lost one of the last great entertainers. I decided to pay tribute to him by starting a sketchbook.
Below are my favourites.
BTW. This is not a post for Haters. So don't click if your sick of him.

Ha...oh to be young again.

music: Billie Jean - Michael Jackson
So I'm watching Billie Jean about, oh, 6 months ago, before the death (trying not to let my brother hear because last I heard he was making fun of MJ), and generally dancing in front of the TV- I was easing back into liking MJ again. I play it about 5 times and then my brother finally comes through the door. He catches me mid twirl and I fall on my ass.
"I thought you were listening to him." He pauses, then smiles "It's actually a really awesome song. Do we have an album somewhere?"
I have to tell him about my stupid decison to chuck HIstory because of my bullying problems back when I was his age.
"Thats too bad." He sits down. "Whats this song about anyway? I can never tell what he's singing about."
So I look the lyrics up...and I'm faintly upset. Because it's completely different to what I thought it was.
Since the age of, oh say 5, I thought Billie Jean was about Michael's ex telling him she "still loves him" but the kid he thought was his "was not his son" so he can't get back together with her. But he's questioning why he thought the kid was his, because the eyes were just like his. But he's so hurt by her lies, that he's shouting "Billie Jean is NOT my lover".
You gotta admit, that without the lyrics, it's kinda hard to hear what he's talking about. I think it was the video to be honest. Because you see him willingly getting into bed with her.
Don't worry, I'm all straightened out on what it means NOW. But seriously.

Michael Jackson did a cover version of "Come Together".
Now, whilst not their best album, Boingo remains a favourite of mine. It reflects the awesome movie scoring that Elfman did in that era
And likewise, Moonwalker is still NOT a proper movie, but I love the way certain portions of that crazy mess looks. The animation, the design...maybe the "costumes" but don't read too far into that.
I tried liking both the original and cover versions of these songs.
I guess I'm just automatically against ANYTHING Beatles related.
I MUST be some sort of freak right? Because I hate Elvis too (
Thats what Luke told me back when we were going out.
Because apparently you HAVE to like one or the other.
Bullshit.
There has to be a thrid group option? (
Oh wait...D:

Because I know most people on my "friends" list are sick of hearing about "it". And I WILL be talking about "it". But so as to stop people getting all uppity about "it", I'll be putting "it" under a cut.
I was pretty upset, and I sobbed for about 3 days straight. But it's been a long time coming, and I would have done it sooner to be honest, and the last straw was the lack of time we were spending together- I couldn't be bothered quite frankly, and he is constantly on and off holiday this summer.

Somebody's watchin' me...

music: Somebody's Watchin' Me- Rockwell
I've been feeling at a bit out of sorts lately. I feel emotionally drained. like someone’s sapped all my creative juices away. I can't even draw to music because my computer is being fixed. My ipod is assigned to it and it needs charging- so I can't listen to that. Spotify has given me some of it back, but darn me and my musical taste- their back catalogue is REALLY limited. So hardly any Aquabats, no World Inferno. And Oingo Boingo? I don't even like the Alive album (THERE I SAID IT). So I just get annoyed and turn it off.
I've not had all that much to do...I've been doing a lot of useless chores like organising cupboards. My friends are all working/sick to the point of not being able to talk/having a baby. I'd get a job myself but I'm a few weeks away from an internship and I want to spend time with my family before I head off to Uni.
( I wish stuff would happen... )
EDIT- Also. Morphine is a FLIPPING Terrorfying song. Heavy industrial-ish beat was pretty awesome...and then the quiet parts started- I had to rip the headphones away from my ears and read the lyrics over. He KNEW.

music: You Can't Win - MJ
Got all of those done, and I finally made it into HMV to rebuy the HIstory Album (Which, as mentioned in a previous entry, I'd thrown away in a fit of anger about all that stuff that supposedly happened).
They were sold out. Of all his albums.
I'd speicially checked the stock online before I set out that morning,
All they had left was Moonwalker. And whilst I would have liked that (having watched The Nostalgia Critic's hilarious review, and deciding the animation looked very trippy- Plus Stop-Motion? SQUEE), I'd decided that buying HIstory would be the final step in coming to terms with everything.
I asked and they told me the company was printing more copies but it'd be a few weeks.
Fail.
So I brought it online when I got back, as well as The Wiz

The Wiz is everything I expected it to be- and that is REALLY hit and miss. I watched it with my mother who was completely without nostalgia goggles. Initially she was so excited...slowly that drained away and she fell asleep twice. The Wiz is the all black 1978 Motown version of stage version of The Wizard of Oz story. Now whilst my mum did share with me some of those artists when I was little, she didn't show me this. Despite the fact she never saw the 1930's version until she married my Dad. She grew up on The Wiz, and it makes me kind of sad she didn't show my brother and I when we were kids.
Here are some of my thoughts on it…
( My thoughts on a REALLY campy movie... )</div>

music: Cool City - Danny Elfman
I started another paperound yesterday (I know. It's pathetic right? But I really don't care. I need it). I've been monitoring my breathing with a peak-flow meter the doctor gave me and I can't get past 300. Which from the shocked look my asthmatic friend gave me is bad.
It just explains so much. I was tested when I was younger but my concerns were always just dismissed as "You need more exercise". I was closely watched by my grandparents during my childhood, and was told never to leave the front garden. Where was I gunna go if I was not allowed to play with other children, or even to the park on my own. Either way, PE/Gym was always difficult because I was always out of breath to the point of cramping up from the lack of oxygen. And I just thought I was just unfit...turns out my lungs were lazy too.
Anyway. Half Term this week. No college. In theory.
I'm going to have to go in to continue building sets and things.
Cool City has got me thinking hard about the city set for the last animation.
I think the Hollywood sign will be something else...in homage to the best bass line EVAR.

Thank christ Doug put some real time and effort into reflecting on two very different (but brilliant) movies.
Even if it hadn't have won, I'm still pleased as punch that he made Keaton the better Batman.
Thats all I really wanted him to admit.
Bales silly voice is VERY off-puting, and Keaton is the last person you'd excpet to be Batman, which makes him so very perfect. :)
Yay, NC does it again!

But I keep forgetting about the other amazing artists in our tiny little fandom.
I'm gunna need to UP my game!
Right after my back stops being on fire. Stupid stock room. My tutor made me clean it out all by myself so I'd have somewhere to film my animation.
I moved 3 tables, 21 easels, several piles of old student work, and assorted rubbish. Then 5 big pieces of chipboard.
I'm falling to pieces.

Flu + Breathing Problems + A third sickness I don't really want to discuss on the internet. It's...just not pleasent.
In anycase, I've got a busy busy week ahead of me (My week starts on a Tuesday- no college on Mondays).
I've got set building, cast making, and storyboarding...
My animation will either be epic.
Or utter fail.

I smell a fight coming on.
May. 17th, 2009 | 10:49 pm
And you get thrown alot of critisism if you say you are, because your bound be tossed right in to the same pile as teeny-boppers in NBC hoodies and Sweeney Todd fans who want nothing more than to jump Johnny Depp's overrated ass (I mean it. I JUST don't find him attractive! What is WITH the female population).
But this isn't a rant about that. Infact, this isn't a rant at all.
It's a prelude to something that is about to happen that I'm going to be very angry at when it does.
I've defended various Burton things before when I felt they were going to get ripped apart, but in that case I always knew what John K was going to think of the Beetlejuice cartoon, and in my own defence, I'm very much blinded by nostalgia when it comes down to that cartoon- it's a pretty weakly written average show. But BATMAN (the 1989 movie) is not.
The Nostalgia Critic is a Brilliant piece of internet television. I tune in every week and Doug Walker is a very talented entertainer. But since I learnt he was about to compare Tim Burton's Batman to the current Dark Knight series, I'm feeling very nervous.
The world and it's mother LOVES the Nolan movies. I know that TGWTG.com does too. It's had various parody videos centering around Doug's excellant Joker impression (Excluding Melvin). But whilst my inital knee-jerk reaction is that the critic is going to BLAST the Burton movies, I'm also holding out a sliver of hope that he won't. I mean he spoke quite fondly of 89 Batman and Batman returns during his hilarious take on the infamous Batman and Robin review. And I already know he's a big fan of the animated series that was paritally based on the Burton movies, but...sigh.
I'm just hoping he'll be fair. Nolan-verse has alot going for it (MOSTLY the Joker). But the Burton movies hold on to the idea that a comic-book movie can be dark but still as colourful as the medium it's based on.
I guess I'll wait until Wednesday to get my answer.
Then I'll come back here and bitch about it when it turns out he'll say "They were good, but they feel dated". :(
Or worse

I've been trying to remedy my money problems with...a paper round. See, no-one wants to hire someone who'll only be gone off to Uni in a few months, so I sunk to the lowest level and took over some kids paper rounds while they were off on holiday.
Needless to say Me + Fresh Air + Excerise = Bad times.
I'm stupidly unfit. Which meant, after a few days, I felt run down. Then I got a cough. Then yesterday I was bed ridden. Now I'm full of phlem.
I have been putting this new laptop into good use though- although some might argue using it to watch the Daily Show, Big Bang Theory and Transformers isn't really helping anyone.
I've only made about 10 quid this week. I suck at this life thing.
